While the economy continues to improve in Las Vegas, many are still suffering from the initial collapse. While fewer homes are entering foreclosure, there are still many who are losing their homes. This trend has prompted a new potential reality television series from CNBC called “Flipping Wars: Vegas,” and follows real estate investors on their bidding wars over foreclosed properties they plan to flip. There are mixed responses to such a series, so much so that we found this opinion piece chastising CNBC on DailyFinance.com for exploiting the economic crisis in Las Vegas.
We reported last month that many in the real estate industry found themselves in serious legal trouble when they were convicted of mortgage and HOA fraud. Real estate scandals continued in the valley through August as Las Vegas real estate developer Jean Marc El Jwaidi plead guilty to wire fraud and faces up to 20 years in prison for misleading investors right here in eRealty’s own backyard. While working on developing commercial real estate nearby on 215 and Russel, he convinced investors to financially back a project he knew would never be completed…all while pocketing the money for himself.
